I chanced upon the Garnier Light B.B. Cream while watching one of those really astonishing male Youtubers, What Style Is To Nickel (WSITN), and he finds that the Garnier B.B. Cream is really good for males. He did specify "males", but it got me nevertheless, and I went out to get one. You can view the full video below, or skip to 04:50 min to see the part on Garnier.I still haven't finish my only tube of Dr. Jart BB Cream, and I have a bottle of Skin79 Diamond BB Cream already in the cupboard to replace Dr. Jart. So when I bought Garnier, my initial motive was to test it, expect that I will not like it, and pass it on to my brother to see if it's better for males.
It ended up that I really like Garnier BB Cream and I decided I would finish Garnier on my own! =PPPP OOPPS.
I just found out after re-watching WSITN that the version Asia gets is not the same, in terms of packaging. The one that WSITN talks about is called a skinperfector and comes in two shades.
But I think the formula should be the same. The overall marketing image is also the same. And I wouldn't know the difference had I not re-watch the video.
Garnier claims that this will give you 10 Instant Visible Effects, as in in the photo above.
Of all of them, I only agree with 1. More radiant, 2. More even-toned, 6. Smoother.
And definitely don't agree with 5. Reduces redness and 8. With less visible lines!
Reason being, this BB Cream is extremely watery for a BB Cream. It's really thin, and if you're looking for coverage, this is not the BB Cream to use. It is a very sheer product that will not help obvious dark circles or obvious pimple. I had a pimple the first day I used this, and the tiny red prick was fully visible after I applied this.
One of the best thing about this Garnier BB Cream though, is that it really makes me look fairer, as claimed. You can see that in the photo below, where on the left of my hand, there is not Garnier, and on the right half, there is.
Well, I guess any BB Cream/Foundation that is a shade lighter would give this effect. LOL. But still, I feel that Garnier got it right by making it not too light. I have actually passed many BB Creams, especially the pure Korean ones because they are way too white for me. But Garnier makes me feel that their idea of lighter colour is still acceptable.
I am now using it everyday because of the way it settles into powder without me dusting any loose/translucent powder! This way, it gives me a dewey finish, very natural, no makeup look, while I can still protect my skin, and even out light pigmentation and light unevenness.
Here comes the Skincare Tip!
According to my beautician, she recommends me to use a layer of loose powder or sunscreen to protect my skin from environmental dust when I go out. This will help my skin to stay cleaner, as any dust will contact the layer of powder/cream, and I can then easily wash it off at the end of the day. And so, when I visit her (monthly), she wouldn't find much mini dirt.
She accurately can tell in the months that I have been good and use sunscreen and when I have been really lazy and go out bare-faced! She'd chide me when I go to her saying my skin is starting to break out after 3 weeks from facial. By rights, if I have been good, my skin really does stays nice well into the 4th and 5th week (sometimes I delay going to her).
And so, I reckon that if I am too lazy to put sunscreen, and too lazy to dust loose powder, I'd use the Garnier BB Cream!
I skip using my sunscreen on days I am running late, because my sunscreen is pretty thick, and I need to split the application into two times, so that I can even it out over my face effectively. Comparatively, the Dr. Jart BB Cream is also rather thick, and slightly more sticky, so I would matte/set it with a tiny bit of loose powder at times, and that requires time.
So the most time-conserving way, is to use Garnier, that is totally not sticky or oily at all and settles into the most wonderful powder finish!
Should I purchase?
The caution I have for anyone thinking about buying is that if you're looking for a tinted moisturizer or a healing BB Cream, or a light coverage lquid foundation, Garnier Light BB is not the one for you.
Garnier is way too thin and dry/powdery to moisturize, and unlike Dr. Jart, I did not find my skin healing upon consecutive use of it. Garnier is lighter than a moisturizer, and definitely lighter than the lightest liquid foundation you will find. M.A.C liquid foundation is thicker. So are hot favourites like Bourjois Vitamin Foundation and Revlon.
Don't go into Garnier expecting it to be a Korean BB Cream. If your expectations of this are right, then go ahead and grab one! I assure you that you'll enjoy it immensely and use it everyday like I do! =DDD
So I love it: 4.5/5!
I like the sheerness of it, how little product I need, how it settles into a fine powder finish, how it is not oily or sticky at all, making it so easy and convenient to use as a thin layer over my face for protection against environmental dust. I think it really meets my everyday needs as a skin protector or skin veil.
But I do wish it has the effect of light concealing, as with Dr. Jart (that can conceal light dark circles and red pimple needles).
PS: On a side note, the Singapore version is apparently the Thai version. They simply printed a sleeve, and pull it over the original box. LOL.
Seeing double! The sleeve on the left, and the box on the right. Spot the difference.
